I have watched a couple of my big swimbaits, with Owner beast 3/8 weighted hooks fly off into the horizon. How often do you retie, without catching a fish?

I use 17lb pline cxx on trebled baits up to 3 ounces and only retie when the line starts to get tore up.

Wrong rod for the application, bad eye on the rod, or bad line. If the rod is slapping a lot on the cast it will fray the line real bad.

Quit whipping the bait when you cast, if you lob the bait out there chances are they won't break off. With the correct rod and real the weight of the bait will get your distance with a easy cast. Watch a show on Muskie fishing and watch how they cast.

Sounds like you are using the wrong rod.

Definitely try to lob your bait out there! The only time I retie my bait if I'm not catching fish is when my line is frayed.

Watch this video. You'll see that throwing large baits is entirely different than whipping small baits on lighter tackle. As mentioned above, the cast becomes of of a "lob" action than fast whipping. Lob casting big swimbaits
