Started on Gibbons at 530 today. Started catching bass on 8xd's by the dam and on rocky points. When that bite died down and the sun got behind the trees I broke out the wop-a-plop and kept the evening going. Gonna head out to Gibbons again tomorrow evening then the rest of the week I will be hitting Somerville. This was only my second time on Gibbons and I've never been on Somerville. Anyone care to share some pointers on either lake.

Somerville isn't known as a very strong bass lake. It's very "plain and uninteresting" under the surface. There was a guy who did a video while on a lake condition survey tour with TPWD using an airboat during the peak of the last serious drought there. It showed massive acreage with virtually no cover (like trees/stumps), structure (topography), or other notable features. It was pretty sad. That video was on Youtube at one time.

That was a very good video but it didn't do much for building my confidence. If I figure anything out I will post it.

That was a very good video but it didn't do much for building my confidence. If I figure anything out I will post it. The lay of the lake did look pretty bleak in that video, which is why I've never been gung-ho to fish there, even though it's only 70 miles or so from me.

Can't speak to GC but Somerville isn't bad. For me, Somerville is better than Conroe fish wise. Last September the High School teams were bringing in 25 lbs limits for their day tournaments on Somerville.

somerville seems to fish like a lot of hill country lakes.......and just because you see rocks on the bank doesn't mean you will find rocky bottoms......it looks in videos like in the fall things fish differently, right now there are no reeds or standing cover that I found.... first time on the lake, we caught a few, largest 4.5 lbs
