I have decided on the avet sxj raptor for my jigging rod but I can't make up my mind on drop rod/ general boat rod. I am thinking the avet lx raptor or mxl raptor. The lx raptor holds 520yds of 80# braid and weighs 25oz and the mxl holds 400yds of 80# braid and weighs 22oz. This will be for fishing texas and Louisiana gulf. I am leaning towards the mxl but I wanted more experienced help in deciding which reel to get. All help is appreciated.

If your talking about a reel for big snapper,grouper,amberjack, tuna I would definitely go a little heavier. Have you looked at Shimano Talicas

Thanks for the reply capt Steve Barnes. I can look at bigger reels but I plan on buying American made if at all possible. What size reel do you recommend?

This will be going on a penn rampage 3080c66. 6'6" 50-100 lb braid.

I have 2 Avets left I sold the Trex 50 last year from lack of use. For me the HXW Raptor, it has been my go to reel ever since I got it, the other is a 30 Wide pro which I have fished many years with the Raptor being much lighter I do notice much difference weight wise after a day with it.

Also still use my old Senators some just to use them again. After the Avets I am spoiled.
