My Mom lives on Fork on Chaney Point so I fish the lake on a pretty regular basis and usually have decent evening success with topwater schooling around the house if I'm fishing in the evening. My brother and his family are in visiting from out of state and his girls want to do some fishing on the boat and are really wanting to catch some fish from a boat, which they've never done. I figured I would take them out in the evenings instead of the heat of the day and hopefully find some schooling with some topwater action so it would be more fun for them. My neices are 9 and 11 years old so I'm sure they will really enjoy it. I'm going to keep it as simple as possible for them with easy topwater techniques and such.

I'm going to start off near the house and maybe venture across to the entrance into little Caney if there isn't much success by the house. I'd rather not haul them all the way across the lake if possible, just in case. Are there any other places around the southern end of the lake where ya'll have seen some evening schooling and topwater action here recently that I could use as a backup plan?

Yea, that's always a good tell tell, and I use the birds as a guide often. Just mainly checking if someone has seen any decent evening schooling in the area recently.

Used to be a pocket down by the dam where 5,6 and 7 pounders would school every evening this time of year on huge gizzard shad.They would be knocking 10 and 12 inch gizzard shad 2 ft out of the water but I haven't seen that type of action out there in 2 years. White bass school every evening down by the hump on the dam but haven't seen many black bass schooling out there this year.
