Ok I know people don't like to give locations but I am struggling here. I finally got my boat motor rebuilt and did a lot of work on her and she is lake ready. I now live close to Hubbard. I have been out to Hubbard twice in the past week. I launch off 66. I caught a few small bass and one crappie on a jig.

I want to take my 5yo fishing and catch some but I don't know where. I assume live minnows are the best.

Hell if I knew a good spot to catch hybrids, that would be fun too.

I would love for the kids to have some fun like I did when I was 5.

Stop by Thumpers up by Lake LAVON and talk to Tommy Ezell. He knows Hubbard pretty well.

If you live by Hubbard I would recommend just driving over to Lake Fork or Lake Tawokini.
The quality of the Crappie on those lakes makes the drive worth it.

Or go to Lake Lavon another excellent Crappie Lake.

LAVON you can fish Timber or brush piles. You can fish the rocks down by the dam.

Tawokini and Fork all the bridges are holding fish as well as Timber.

On Hubbard and almost any lake during the summer, you should be able to catch crappie under the bridges. Moreover, If you have electronics you can find them on brush in 20-25 FOW. Fishing 12-15ft deep. Standing timber (trees you can see above the water) in that depth should work too. Obviously some areas are better than others but, those general guidelines should work on most lakes, including Hubbard.

Remember:
1. If you are hanging up; you've found brush and crappie love brush.
2. Crappie feed "up" if you get too deep you'll miss tons.
3. If you've been in a spot more than 15mins with no bites... MOVE
4. I'm no pro. These are just my observations over the past 20 years.
