It is wrong to catch game fish using cast nets. It will damage the fishing area and limited the chance for these fish to reproduce. I am sorry to say it, but if I see anyone using cast net to catch other than shad, I will report it it game warden. Game warden might get there on time to stop the activity or not, but at least I did something.

you don't have to be sorry about anything. some people call OGT, some people advise them they're in the wrong, some people kick buckets.

I was heading home last night from the Rowlett/Naaman Forest baseball game around 9pm and there were two GW trucks on the bridge by the gun range. Looked as if they might have been questioning some hispanics at top of the bridge. I looked at my wife and said, "I love to see the GW down here."

Ditto for me too. Caught a decent amount of sandies but nothing of any size. I did bring my flyrod down and managed my first hybrid on the fly. He was only 14 inches or so but it was still fun on a 4 weight. Two days ago in my spot I saw giant hybrids one after another being caught, and today lots of small sandbass.

Got to Firewheel at 7:15 this a.m. Only one other car was there. when I left there were 22 cars! Caught 9 sandbass in the 12-15" range. One Hybrid- 3 1/2 lb. Great fun on an ultralite.

Hello Everyone: Okee well started fishing around 2pm and fished till almost 9 pm. Yeah I fished till it was past Dusk this evening. Okee I have to agree with Tarpon and Redraiderfisher if you want Sand Bass they are there and easy to catch. Now as far as a Hybrid well there a few left but all the ones I got were 14-16 inches long. I only saw one other one caught and it was short and was kept by the hispanic and they were laughing about it cause they knew it was short. I called it in of course don't know if they got all the necessary info as my Phone died from being on hold for almost 10 minutes. Oh well I did what I could. I think with the Temp dropping so fast 30 degrees in a day??? What the deepest pool in the creek?? I would say maybe 15 to 20 feet deep. Well they want warmer water and 15 to 20 feet isn't going to stay warm very long. So did these fish head back home??? I would have to venture to say they went back down in a hurry the more I think about it... Oh well till next time..... Anyways I ended up catching and releasing like 8 short Hybrids for the day. LOTS and LoTS of numberous Sand Bass caught. Nite all

Anyone braved the bitter cold to catch some sandies? I'm thinking about going Saturday or Sunday but don't know how the fishing is going to be affected by the cold front. I limited out on Monday right next to the Pleasent Valley bridge using basically anything and everything in my tackle box. All were on the smaller side, 10-11" with the occasional 12". Saw a few hybrids caught, unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. On Thursday, I ventured a little further downstream since the construction has changed a lot of the structure around the bridge. Only consistent bite I could get was using a white Rooster Tail on ultralite; I caught 2-3 times more using the same lure on the ultralite w/ 4 lb. line vs. the light rig w/ 6 lb. line. I saw a guy tearing them up a few yards away from me but didn't get close enough to see what kind of bait it was; looked like a 3" black/silver minnow type crank bait. I watched him for a little bit and they seemed to hit right after a small twitch and pause every time. I left with 8 12"+ sandies and threw back just as many 10 inchers in about 2.5 hours. No hybrids to be found. Hope this is detailed enough for you, maybe I should tell you what I had for lunch today or how many times I went to the restroom lol.

Went Friday at 6:45am. Between my dad and I we went through three dozen minnows in about two hours. I went back and got another five dozen and were were done with those by 12:30. Went back and got another four dozen and they shut off around 2pm. Probably ended up catching 80-90 fish between the both of us. We gave away about 5 bleeders and about 5 more to some nice young men that were fishing next to us. Other than that we threw all of our fish back. We mainly fish for the fun of it. Plus, to me, it's disturbing to think about how many fish are taken out of the creek during this two month period. But that's another topic. All fish caught were sandbass from 8"-15" range. Ninety percent were around 12-13". We did see about 5-6 hybrids caught.
Also called Operation Game Thief on two hispanic guys using cast nets. The game warden showed up and gave them both tickets for four fish. The GW called me and asked me how many fish I saw them catch and told him 10-15 but could have been more since I was catching fish also and could not pay attention to them the entire time. I told him they would throw the fish up on the bank and their kids would grab them and take them somewhere. He said they had four fish on a stringer and they were stashing the rest somewhere else but he didn't know where. Needless to say, they were escorted out of the creek area. I felt good seeing that the GW actually showed up. I didn't realize that you can get a reward for turning them in. I encourage everyone that sees castnetters or anyone keeping sandbass under 10" to call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-792-4263. Make sure you put the number in your cell phone now so you have it ready when you need it. I didn't have it in my phone but one of the young men next to us did. If he wouldn't have been there I wouldn't have been able to call and report them.

Yeah my buddy and i have called in on three groups of cast netters this past week that have been coming down right after dark. It just makes me sick to see them taking all those fish out of there of all sizes. But on a good note ive been catching well over my limit(but releasing them) the past three days just by working jigs slow off the bottom even yesterday when it was pretty cold.

I saw two GW trucks ar the Pleasant Valley bridge last thursday night around 9pm on my way home from a baseball game. That just shows you it is never too late to notify the GW if you see people castnetting or keeping illegal fish. Everytime I go fishing for sandies and get skunked I think about how many fish we lose to these people.
