Awful. I've never been on Conroe....are there marked boat lanes for high speed travelling? Or is it clear for speed everywhere?

Sad... :-( Father killed, mom in the hospital, and the kid made the 911 call. They were "anchored" per a different article I read and the other boat was heading to a weigh-in and hit them. Supposedly both boats had their required lights on.

Awful. I've never been on Conroe....are there marked boat lanes for high speed travelling? Or is it clear for speed everywhere? There are no marked boat lanes on Lake Conroe. On the south end of the lake, where most all of the accidents happen, it's wide open to run anywhere.

Planing speed only on Conroe after dark. No marked boat lanes.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Painful. Very painful.
It might be that we could add some discussion here, or on another post, about what one should/might do if you are in a stationary boat, like the family appeared to be, and another boat is coming at you at high speed and doesn't see you.
I don't know but I think my first reaction might be to try to jump clear of the boat at the last minute???
One issue with this is I would suppose that a quick turn at the last moment by the boat coming in at speed might go from "passing at a distance" to "coming straight in" in the blink of an eye. That is, that the passing boat appears to be off at a safe margin, then . . .
Vision could be an issue at night, too, I know.

^^ all sorts of things that could be thought of for that type of stuff.
maybe making anyone on the water at night have a readily available spotlight that can be shown/flashed at any oncoming boaters?
not knowing the lake or where they were anchored makes it hard to guess how they were positioned but usually you can hear a boat coming way before seeing it and "IF" ALL the lights were on that were supposed to be on(for both boats!) they would have been able to see the oncoming boat as well giving them lets say 30 seconds of decision time. Not much, for sure but maybe enough to have shown a light or something.
maybe making a "anchored light" that is separate from the regular running light that has an additional colored(red? blue?) light above the already required white light?
I'm used to seeing people "not" use lights at all while on the water at night so you notice any light really quick.

Conroe and Cedar Creek are horrible to navigate in the dark. It is very difficult to distinguish boat lights because of all the homes with lights on.
Looks like the driver of the Nitro that was hit was in the drivers seat from watching the video.

Never been on Conroe but cedar creek and Palestine are both difficult lakes to see navigation lights of other boats because of all the dock/house lights on the shore
