Yes it did. That lake needs it, it gets fished hard. Regardless, it is a Great Lake.

They stocked 2,507,185 fry sized hybrids in Lake Tawakoni. That seems like a very specific number. How did they know it was not 2,507,186 or heck 2,600,000 for that matter I love it when people give more specificity than is reasonably possible...

I guess the reason they didn't put any in Texoma is because most of the lake is in Oklahoma? They need to, that flood destroyed the striper fishing up here.

Texoma gets a stocking every year naturally as it is one of the few lakes in the nation that has a naturally reproductive spawn. That being said we have had awesome spawns the last 2 years and Texoma is full of small stripers. Yes the flood of 15 hurt but fishing has been really off the charts as of late and should only get better as these fish grow up. According to biologists it takes 3 years for a striper at Texoma to make 19 inches so next year is going to be a slugfest on those sized box fish. We are catching some really nice overs as well the numbers of overs are just not what they were before the flood. My opinion is with the reduced numbers of fish the bigger ones will have a chance to get truly large once again!

I worked in fisheries years ago, they perform precise counts by weight, to get a avg weight, then when they stock they weight the fish out, multiply by avg weight for the total. it is not perfect, but it is pretty darn close.

That makes sense, thanks for the explanation. Like you said, it is an estimate, so its always strange when they give such an exact number.

Of course I believe the lake will one day return to what it was, just wish it would do so on my time schedule. I have read some of those biologist reports as well, I just fear that the 3 years needed will turn into more like 5 years.

The state stocked a combined total of stripers and hybrids of 13,202,400 for the whole state. Tawakoni received 4,481,454 to me that's a lot of fish for 1 lake if the state would evenly devide the fish to all the lakes on the list there would be more lakes with good fishing like Tawakoni and Texoma. Tawakoni would not be fished so hard if the state would build up the fish population in more lakes like Tawakoni and Texoma. That's almost 1/3 of the stocking for this year to 1 lake. That leaves 8,720,946 to divide between all the other lakes on the list. The proof is in the numbers go back and look at the state stocking numbers for the last 10 years. Texoma and Tawakoni have received more stocking than any other lakes in the state. stock more lakes in the state

Fry numbers always are large because their survival rate is small. Fingerlings have a much better survival rate for obvious reasons.
