So me and my dads kayaking trip to Walter E. Long was cancelled and now we've decided to go 12 miles to Canyon. I'm not familiar with the lake at all and need any advice I can get. I know it's clear and that's about as much as I know. I've already done a youtube search with really little to no info taken. Any help will do

A kayak on canyon during 4th of July weekend is a recipe for disaster. You are only going to be able to realistically fish a couple spots. I would either start out at ramp 6 and head west into Toms creek, or ramp 11 up the Guadalupe river. In those areas, you will be somewhat safe from pleasure boaters. Drop shot or shakey heads fished slow are my best options there.

Read the recaps on the Thursday Nighters website in each of the results. There are reports in there every week and they are accurate. It took 20+ lbs to win last night. The 4th place team had big bass which was an 8.17 pounder. Tons of fish in the 4 to 5 pound range weighed in. www.thursdaynighters.com

Going west from ramp 6 is some of the most kayak friendly water you are going to find. It gets protected from the wind when you get up towards the creek and that whole arm from around the ramp is a no wake zone so you will be a lot safer. Canyon lake is not the kinda place where you want to go exploring main lake stuff on a holiday weekend. Good luck!

A kayak out there for the 4th is as good as a death wish. But if you really wanna fish it, launch at Toms creek and fish in that whole arm. Not a whole lot of ski boats in that area. Or you can launch near the river and fish it. That area isn't too crowded either. Anywhere else is unsafe in a kayak on the 4th if you ask me. Godspeed!
