Just curious if some of you old school jig fisherman still use pork trailers. Old josh brand comes to mind. A buddy tells me pork fishes better in cold water, I don't know.

Yeah I love them in winter early spring. Just can't find them anymore. Bought two jars this last winter I found at Walmart.

Uncle Josh is there brand and they don't make them anymore. I have heard rumors they would be starting up again but are having trouble finding the material. This past December I found 5 jars at my local Walmart and bought all five. Any time I see a jar anywhere I will buy them up.

I was talking with a guy out west, who possibly has more 15lb+ fish to his name than anyone else alive... He told me that over the years, most of his bass over 10lbs came off jigs, but that he never once caught a fish over 15lbs on a jig with a plastic trailer. Pork was the ticket. His theory was these old fish were simply too wise to be fooled by plastic. Now in all fairness the vast majority of these fish were caught prior to 1990. Plastics have come a long way since then. Interesting none-the-less.

I fish them as well in early Spring and do quite well. Last I heard, that Uncle Josh would not re-open. The quality pork skin they need does not seem to be readily available, the cost is really high and the demand is not as high as it once was. I can see with all the plastics now-a-days. Sad to see a company like that close its doors. I have a recipe on how to make your own, but it is too cost prohibitive and too time consuming.

I can understand the lack of demand these days but there should be a huge supply of pork skins with all the wild hogs!
I prolly have some dried, hard as a rock skins still stuck on a hook somewhere!

If someone would start making the old Pork-O's again I would definatly be in. Big ol weightless Pork-O on a weedgaurd hook was magic!

Nothing works better for me on my black spinnerbaits when night fishing as an old Uncle Josh pork for a trailer. I still have a couple of bottles with just a couple of pieces of pork that have to be 5 to 10 years old that I still try to use.

I have used em before and they have great action! True extremely hard to find now. And with soft plastics in 5 kabillion colors hard to compete I guess. Plus the maintenance of the pork keeping it from drying out. If I find any here local I'll let ya'll know.

If I could find them, I'd still use them!

I caught more bass using Uncle Josh pork trailer than any plastic, but I also think that the living rubber skirts played a role in that combo too. I need to find some living rubber skirts for some jigs and see what the fish think
