i have a yellow magic. not sure of the color. its green/chart i think. for some reason i find it no different then other brands, rather its cheap or not. i don't know if its the way i work it, maybe i just need to fish it more and get a feel for it.
Cast it, reel it, jerk it.

Send it to me and I will test it out and see if it's defective.

Once you learn how to walk it you will see the difference. You can make a YM walk like a spook.

Been fishing them since summer of 2000. You can walk the dog (as previously mentioned), you can make it spit water for up to 6' (no other popper will do that), chug it, spit it and gurgle it. It is one of the most versatile poppers out there. When I removed the pain from one of the YM, the Don Iovino Splash it's and the Rico Pop, they are all the same lure hard body, same same everything. The Iovino Splash it used to be cheaper, but do nto know if it still is or not. Just try to do the things I mentioned with it and learn it well. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I have fished all brands of poppers and never found one that you couldn't get to walk like a spook. Sometimes they want it walking and sometimes they want the more traditional retrieve. Just experiment with it.

Well that explains it. I never tried walking it. Just the traditional pop.
Cast it, reel it, jerk it.

Never tried a green/chart colored one. I prefer a shad or bone colored one. My favorite is a smoke shad patterned one that 1/4 of the paint is wore off. I have cashed several checks in May-July using that bait over the 7-8 years I've had it. Can't believe I haven't lost it yet. Replaced back treble multiple times. I have 3 backups that have never seen the water. My 2nd fav is a bone colored one. Don't throw it much but sometimes you have to change things up. I throw mine on 15lb big game on either a 6'7" rod or 7-7'3" medium action rod. Good luck Coach

Call me old school... I still throw a "Pop N Image", must be the Bill Dance autograph on the side of it or something because I've still yet to experience a day where someone in my boat with me throwing the YM caught significantly more fish than I did. I have witnessed that with some of the high end crankbaits, but never with a topwater. The $3 H2O Pop R's at Academy will walk the dog too if you work them right.

I throw the h2o model and can walk the dog just fine. Don't need to spend that kind of money on a poppin lure

funny you said that, i literally just came from the bow section in the THF Retrieve/speed is the biggest thing with those, for me anyways. Sometimes they want it sitting in the water for 10 seconds between pops, sometimes they want it as fast as you can get it back to the boat while popping it. Definitely a good time of year to practice and work on it.

Pop, pop, let it sit, let it sit some more, let it sit some more, a little more, twitch it, walk it about a foot, stop it, let it sit, pop, pop. Repeat. I don't like steady retrieves unless it's a slow, wide, walk the dog. A British isn't going to on top unless it's hurt and if it's hurt it's going to erratic. Sometimes it's a fast erratic or sometimes slow. My buddy can catch them better on a y.m. than I can. I like other brands but I mostly throw non popper style topwaters

YM was better several years ago before everyone had one or six in their tackle box. I think the fish have seen too many and for me they are not nearly as productive as they once were.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Wait, I think I see a positive correlation here. We catch more fish on what we keep in the water!
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.
