Looking for options for a weekend camping trip with the travel trailer for our 10-year anniversary in October. We were originally considering Fredricksburg, but it seems that wine is the big attraction there and neither the wife or I are very much into that. Still thought it might be nice if we could stay at a state park in the area and do Fredricksburg on Saturday and hiking/swimming/sightseeing in the park on Sunday. Looked at Pedernales, but heard the camping was not great. Looked at Inks Lake, but it seems that there isn't much hiking at all. Enchanted Rock just seems kind of boring. I have never been to any of these places though, so I'm open to any and all input.

Interests:
- Scenic hiking (waterfalls, cliff views, mountain, etc.)
- Swimming
- Good campsites (water/electric preferred, sewer optional)
- Other cool activities
- Proximity to Fredricksburg

I am also open to other locations than Fredricksburg that would offer some shopping for the wife and a nice weekend getaway. Just looking for a good, relaxing weekend for the both of us.

Appreciate the help in advance.

Pedernales Falls was awesome...Not sure why someone would say the camping wasn't great there...Granted, when we went, we took tents, but I know we had water and electricity at our site. My only complaint was the trash truck coming through around 6:00 a.m. That was a bit noisy.

Pedernales Falls for sure. Don't over think it.

I have visited all three parks several times but have no camping experience at any of them ( I did hike to the top of Enchanted Rock at age 50, though).

I would add Blanco SP but it is smaller and pretty much urban but it IS on the river.

You can watch youtube videos of hiking and camping at the first three parks. Two good sources that come to mind are TexasHikeaholics and State Parkers. Both have videos that give a good idea of each park and what it offers.

You might also check online park maps at TPWD to get an idea of the number and length of trails at each.

If you like the Hill Country I don't think you can go wrong at any of them. The only issue may be crowds but in October that should not be a problem.

Brandon, Is Hamilton's pool still open to the public? I thought it was closed down years ago.

Its been years since I was there, but I do remember a big blow up out there from people getting hurt/killed from jumping off the cliff and hitting the "Boulder".

I did not see Guadalupe River S.P. mentioned. And there is no R.V. camping at Enchanted Rock. There is plenty to do in FBG for a few days other than wine. You need to do it at least once. Great WW II museum, Luckenbach, Wild Seed Farm, Rock Box and so on. I live in FBG, you are not going to have all that you mentioned in one spot. You are going to have to venture out a little from base camp. Several places you mentioned are pretty easy drives from Fredericksburg.

guadalupe state park will be full of partiers this time of yr. if it is like way back when.

probably hard to get a res. there for a spot as well.

you have shreiner (sp?) park in kerrville, used to be a nice little rv place in comfort yrs ago, guad is right there so it stayed a little cooler.

used to hit most of them when I lived in comfort.

Schreiner park (former state park) is a nice little place on the river. Could do a little light fishing. Right across the river from an area known as Flat Rock city park.
