When I had a tackle store, I couldn't compete with BPS on price. But now their price is retail plus. I too have noticed that some lures in Bass Pro are sold ABOVE retail list price. It has been years since I bought any substantial bag of lures there. Decades ago they did offer decent mailorder pricing - before they got into the big-store business. Though I do favor cabela's more, it isn't because of tackle pricing. (In-house branded clothing is top notch quality, at a decent price if in the bargain bin.) They are as bad as Bass Pro now on tackle pricing. Tackle Warehouse is good for lures, so-so for rods, and forget it for reels.

It is pretty handy to have all that inventory to walk around and put your hands on, so you can leave and buy it online for cheaper.

Bass Pro is ridiculous on price. My Nitro came with a $500 Bass Pro gift card, and it took me a while to spend it waiting for deals. Couldn't bring myself to pay extra just because I had a gift card. I do like Cabelas' bargain cave. I've bought a few reels from there at great prices. Bass Pro and Cabelas doesn't seem to compete with each other on price anyways....unless it's who can have the highest. Not sure how the merger will affect this.

Don't have BPS in the area, we had Gander and have Academy, plus a very good local shop that is unusually well stocked with freshwater goods and higher end rods/reels despite being primarily a Saltwater town (Jax, fl). We are supposed to get BPS in 2019 (was 2014, keeps getting bumped out). Have been to the big BPS in Orlando it's pretty nice, and they built one in Gainesville about a year ago I guess, I stopped by yesterday as I was in the area. Seemed a little small, but they all may be small compared to the giant Orlando store I guess. Prices pretty high, looked at a few Auto PDF's they were about $60 higher than Amazon, for instance. Not a big selection, NO Daiwa for instance, but they did have Lews which BPS used to not sell a few years ago. No Flambeau, either. No PLine Tactical, which is what I was looking for. Couple rows of Freshwater, couple rows of Salt, and the rest was camping/hunting/clothes/etc. and NO FUDGE lol. Tracker side had one Fiberglass boat - a Z20, a couple of TX17's, the rest were pontoons and pleasure boats. I guess it was a success, as I was able to try on a few Auto PDF's, but wound up only buying a spool of Excel which I use for backing and some of the rubber practice plus which I can only seem to find at BPS. Once I realized I was still going to have to order my PLine Tactical from TW it really wasn't worth the hassle to pay BPS prices for the other items I was planning on picking up, ie some VMZ Rugby heads, Power Worms, Whopper Plopper, etc. TW will get that order.
