Is one better than the other putting one on a half ton truck?

If any of them actually improved the performance of the vehicle the way the makers of them say they do, why wouldn't 1/2 ton trucks come with them installed from the factory? Just my opinion.
Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

They just make the engine noise a little louder. No improvements and usually worse air filtration.
I hate photobucket.

I wouldn't bother unless I planned to tune the truck.

If your want more rumble put a different muffler on it. Your not going to see any gains from intake/exhaust without tuning and any gains from hardware/tuning will be most evident at peak HP probably 5000 rpm range, its just really not worth it.

Well as I age, I don't want the noise I wanted when I was 25... a nice low rumble is all I want.

They just make the engine noise a little louder. No improvements and usually worse air filtration. Yep. One example I had first hand dealings with was on a 2001 Chevy P/U. The owner put a K&N system on, and a few months later the truck started using oil and had no leaks. He was miffed by it, and one afternoon we were discussing it and opened the hood. I looked at the filter and took it off to look at the inside. The duct from the filter to the intake was dusty, and you could draw a line in it with your finger. He had followed directions on re charging it to a t. The only way to increase air flow is to use a filter with more surface area or use one that filters less.

I have an SBD on my 6.7 Cummins which is deleted, cat backed, tuned and studded out. The way the filter is designed it has alot more surface area. I believe I have more air flow to the turbo thats just judging by the Turbo whin. My mileage has stayed the same as before the cold air 22.5 at 65 mph 20.5 at 75mph and 18.5 at 85.
On a stock truck it's probably not worth it.
