Just "good and tight" works for me. Been doing my own gear lube changes since my boat was new in 2008. +1, except since 1980. Sometimes people get in trouble over doing the whole torgue thing. I have heard of people with Tacomas stripping out tranny pans trying to hit the torque settings. Some Tacoma owners even insist on torqueing oil drain plugs.

Got one of these I use on guns, works great. I don't torque them just snug. For the life of me I will never understand why they don't put a hex head bolt in there.

Sounds like a personal problem, there is a torque spec provided.

Sounds like a personal problem, there is a torque spec provided. Right on. I agree. I guess there must be some other reason everyone is using a slotted head screw. Reminds me of an old jet boat we used to have with a Berkley drive on it. It had two nylon square head plugs on it. One on each side about mid way up on the unit. They were way too easy to round up the square head loosening them. You are supposed to check the level every trip. And after a few trips it was vice grips. Then a few more and it was time for new plugs. A real PITA.
