I won't live long enough to enjoy it, but my son may and definitely my grand children. Hop in car, enter your destination and relax. Watch TV, listen to music, etc. The car will drive you to the grocery store or across the country.
The more I read about them, the more I'm impressed. My grandfather drove a covered wagon from Amarillo to the farm he purchased outside of Plainview. Before he passed, he was taking a jet from Lubbock to Phoenix to visit his oldest daughter.

I'm working on one now. My boy recently turned 16 and I'm teaching him how to drive. Only a matter of time before he becomes my personal chauffeur.

Tesla is getting close, of course it's not fully autonomous but who doesn't like a car that will park itself/drive itself to you in a parking lot? Granted the price point isn't as accessible but there will be a ~30k model released relatively soon I believe. I think once we get that technology nailed down the roads will be exponentially safer.

The big plus of a self driving car is no more texting and driving.

The big plus of a self driving car is no more texting and driving. It seems the proliferation of smartphones has made driving much more dangerous. Couldn't go a day driving in DFW without having to curb the inner road rage.

Call me what you want, but I would love to see those self-driving cars at a mall parking lot during the Christmas holiday.

Call me what you want, but I would love to see those self-driving cars at a mall parking lot during the Christmas holiday. Oh, that's easy. Have it pull up to the entrance, then program it to drive in a big circuit of the area until you're done shopping. I wonder whether fully automated cars with no human occupants will be on the road soon?

Now that's slightly creepy. I know that Uber is doing some R&D on that.

Machines driving themselves scares me more than people driving themselves. I'm already praying non-stop on the highway. I'm going to have to start praying overtime when the autonomous cars hit the roads.

If I were in my 20's and self driving cars were the norm, think of the fun you could have with the back seats laid down.

Stupidest idea to ever come about. How will an automated vehicle avoid obstacles in the road including people that may jump out on to the road in front of these cars? What happens if the vehicle malfunctions just as your driving along a cliff on a curve? Anything electronic and mechanical has the possibility of failing at any time. But then there'll be those that argue it could happen in a conventional vehicle. True but you have to think that if someone is in a self driving vehicle they're not going to be paying attention to anything on the road. They'll be sitting back and relying of the vehicle to take them to wherever they want to go. Ban the self driving vehicles now before a monster is created !!

I read an article not so long ago that BMW is planning a future were most people don't even buy cars. It would be like a monthly membership and you share a car with others...like a private bus. So if you need to be at work at say 6:00 am it will pick you up and take you to work. Then say another person needs to be at work at 8:00 am. The car will drop you off and go get the next person and take them to work.
