Hello all, I am wondering if any of you have run into this problem and might be able to help. I recently purchased used a 2011 Skeeter XZ250 VMax engine 250. On test run it ran like a beast. I got it home, three hour drive, took to lake and it would cut out at plane. Have had mechanic replace all filters and do all general maintenance. He got it running for 1 hour awesome. I traveled to lake the next day. Put on water. Same thing. My mechanic was able to duplicate his next trip to lake. He found that the fuel line had a split in it and he cut off the hose, clamped back down and it ran awesome. I took it to the lake at least 4 times and it ran like a beast. This past Thursday I put in a full tank of gas, went to the lake, not many waves, and it ran awesome. We back again, the next day and it started cutting out again. The mechanic is thinking the high pressure gas pump might be the issue. But I have read some articles and I think it might be a few different things. 1. Is there an overflow for gas where maybe I am putting too much gas in or a filter is failing that is causing it to fill up and cut off the oxygen to the gas? 2. I was told on some of them there is a vent hose and they sometimes fill up and that will cause the problem? 3. It seems to happen after I trailer the boat. Could there be an overflow or something that the sudden stops behind my truck are causing it to fill up and stall the next time. I just don't think it's the high pressure pump, because when it does run, it runs like a wild horse. My only theory is when my mechanic worked on it, checked the hoses, etc or when he cut the hose, it allowed the gas to vent again and that is why it ran well. And since the tanks were not full I had some extra oxygen in their for it to use. But when I filled up the tanks, I decreased the oxygen area and ran out. But I have no idea. I am taking back to the dealer where I bought it in east Texas, but I would like to maybe have suggestion for them.

Is your mechanic taking it to the lake and hooking up his computer to it? It should give him the info he needs. What all fuel filters were changed? What ever you do quit running it until its fixed right. Starving it of fuel is when they tend to blow.

Being intermittent I would suspect the High Pressure fuel pump.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am not sure if my mechanic was taking his computer to the lake. It has been suggested it was the High Pressure fuel pumps. Not the cheap fix. Ugh. But asking him to take it to the lake is a great idea.

If it's the High Pressure Fuel Pump, then it's the tiny basket filters inside. They cost like $0.50.
I would not let them send my High Pressure Fuel Pump out for a $1500 repair when all it needs is this.

Unfortunately Yamaha certified dealers are not allowed to service those. That is often the problem.

In some rare cases, there is a manual fuel switch on Skeeters under the back compartment that can be turned from port, starboard, or dual. I have heard that if left on the dual position, that it can draw air and cause the motor to "sputter". If you have dual tanks, it needs to be positioned to the tank selected.
