Caught a fish that went about 7lbs today. I was fishing a pond. So I had no stay alive with me. The hook was very hard to remove. so i just cut the line, left the hook in and let it go. Fish was bleeding pretty bad. Should I have just kept it? Was leaving the hook in there giving it a better survival chance? I watched a guy catch an 8lber the day before and keep it. So I hated to see another big fish bite the dust.

im no biologist but i imagine that fish died or will die. in the future run the hook back thru and pull the shank and eye out. fish still might have died but it would have had a better chance being able to feed without a hook in it.

Tongue hook even if removed usually kills the bass

I got lucky last night, tongue hooked a four pounder, luckily the hook went all the way through. I cut the barb off, slid it out, and she swam right off

Tongue hooked fish are hard to keep alive for some reason. Even if you remove the hook.

In tournaments if a fish gets tongue hooked and its not a 4 or above I let it go,IT WILL DIE, because the tongue is supposedly full of blood vessels. Tongue hooked one last time out, let it go, it kept swimming in circles and flopping.

I hooked a fish in the tongue in a tournament. Got the hook out and got her in the livewell pretty quick, but she was belly up within 60 seconds. She wasn't even bleeding that bad. I couldn't believe how fast it happened.

It's a bass....it's brain is in it's tounge. That's why we can catch them on "food" that doesn't taste or look like food. Haha
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Has anyone tried the Coke trick with a tongue hooked fish? I've done it when they were bleeding from other areas but never the tongue.

I have given them a shot of mountain dew. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.
