I heard that they killed Athens by spraying the grass,so sad. In your opinion what's the best lake in east Texas for numbers and size? For me Fork for size, used to be Athens for numbers(haven't fished it since they sprayed pellets to kill the grass).Size and numbers, Rayburn.

Monticello, but I wouldn't believe the hype about the extent to which the pellets will affect the grass on Athens. I would head out and see for myself. Notice that no one is posting pictures of barren shoreline where "all" the grass is dead. M

Usially when all the grass dies off a lake if you can find some brush or something to hold fish it will be loaded. I say usually because it's fishing and things don't always work out

At Athens today, plenty of grass. Rumor of it's demise exaggerated

Rayburn maybe for both. Definitely for numbers. Always hard to rule Fork out for size. Then again it is hard to rule out T-Bend for either also. It is good to be in Texas. Great fishing all over.

I'll give you an honest update about Athens. The grass is not dead. The fishing is amazing right now, if you catch one fish, and you can make the same cast there is a chance you catch 4,5,6 in a row. The real "grass problem" right now in Athens is the grass they have killed is floating everywhere and making it a nuisance to fish moving baits and some top waters.
