Question, at what point do you give up on an older boat? I've got the above boat. It's my first boat and I enjoy it. It currently does all the things I need a boat to do. My son is starting a fishing club /tournament with his jr high. I am going to captain for him and his friend on his team. The gel coat needs a good sanding and polishing out and the carpet is in poor shape. Looking like doing those two thing cost about $1500 give or take? Is it worth it to do on a nearly 30 yr old boat?
Or do I just sell this one and get something a little fresher?
Another thing I thought of that I thought would be great but I've never seen before. Has anyone ever removed all the carpet and had the whole top of the boat rhino lined? Seems to me that would be ideal in my environment but maybe there is something I'm not the thinking about. Thanks.

I am working on my 1978 Ranger, I pulled off all the old carpet and cleaned the deck, then I painted it with Marine Tuff Coat. I know I am gonna like this a lot better than carpet. The cost of the Tuff Coat product is half of all the other deck paints. Even though I have not used my boat yet, I have gotten some nice compliments on the paint job.

Nice meeting you today on Waxahachie....( I was the guy in the old white Nitro and Black Tundra) Man....anyone can do the buffing and carpet. I did my own for around $500...including the glue gun and glue. It isn't that hard to do. As for buffing? Why? Your boat looked fine to me ! It's a pretty sweet old Skeeter. Maybe just a little compound and a waxing.
How did the boat run this afternoon? Look like it ran good as you were heading out.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

Wow, small world, Yes it was nice meeting you today. I'll tell ya. The boat really treated me right. Even though I neglected it for a year and a half letting it sit with old gas in the carbs it ran great. Stayed till about 7 fishing and running most of the old gas out of the boat. I sent you a pm. JJ.
