I would normally say Shimano since I have gone almost exclusively with them now BUT I bought a Lews super duty speed spool on sale at Cabelas (99.99 now, was 10% off of that last month) and tried it yesterday. Set up first cast with 1/2 oz bait barely dropping on its own and MAJOR professional overrun! Got it cleared and noticed brake was on zero so I set it to 4 and loosened the spool to drop a bit faster and it cast very well. Backed the brake off to 3 and could cast the rest of the day without much thumb use and casts were long! Quite impressed with the responsiveness of the settings, I had a Lews once before and it did not last very long at all, I will see how this super duty holds up....

I can sling my Team Lews' as hard as possible and NEVER a backlash. I can even close my eyes, or watch the graph as it sails. Awesome casting reels. Durable and light weight too.

2 Daiwa Tatula CTs....the smaller frame compared to original Tatula with t-wing system is a best value compared to others mentioned. 100.00 each! +1... bought another one this evening! Also bought a Lew's yesterday and it's a great reel as well. Lew's and Daiwa Tatulas are all I'm using these days.

+1 Lews is all that I use now. You probably don't have it adjusted correctly if you are having backlash problems. +1

I am not necessarily disagreeing user error could be a part of the problem but I have throw shimanos and bass pro models and buddies reels of every manufacturer and not had these problems. So I either don't know how to dial in a Lews baitcaster or this particular one is having issues.

I changed over to Lews and have had good luck with them. Those $99 LFS are hard to beat get set right and out casts those carbonlites, plus when you engage the reel the thumb bar clicks back fully to start reeling.

Agreed. I sold my Shimanos for Lew's You will be replacing your Lews well before your Shimano would wear out, I'm still using series B curado 100's and MG 50's, they cast great and their over 15 years old.
