One of my favorite techniques is to swim and pitch a jig around shallow cover/structure. I almost always use green pumpkin or bullgill imatating colors with the occasional black and blue for real dirty water.
Under what conditions do you throw a white based jig? The few times Ive gone to this color, I didn't do well and it's curbed my confidence. Ive had partners and seen the pros throw white regularly but can't get myself to commit to it.

i say anytime they are chasing shad. I have had great luck on it on overcast dirty water type days as well as clear bright days.

White is the primary color I throw. If the bass are eating shad, they will eat the white swim jig

On a cloudy and rainy day in April a white swim jig qualified me to go to the state tournement. The water visibility was like 6 inches

I've been catching them on a white swim jig all year since January. If the visibility is about a foot or more I will throw it most of the time. If the water is really clear and white seems too bright I will use a bluegill/green pumpkin or I think they are feeding on bluegill instead of shad. Black if the water is really dirty.
If you are catching fish then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Go with your confidence color.

White with some black and green strands if they are feeding on shad and crappie can be great

White is really good during the shad spawn or throughout the Summer. I pretty much stick to bluegill during the Spring.

Try to mix in the white (with a nice pearl or shad-colored boot tail swimbait trailer) jig when you're having success on your preferred color (gill) to build confidence....it is almost always a good color to throw

The water visibility was like 6 inches I don't understand when people don't throw realistic colors in off colred water. I'm not saying that I don't but some people read a book or some pro says you need to throw this color in this water color and that color in different water color. Shad don't turn brown, black, blue, purple, etc. in different water color.

I throw a swim jig in one of these colors with a matching trailer. If one doesn't work, I swap to the other. I also have a couple other colors. But those are for when these 2 won't produce which is rare.
