I'm a TXU employee @ CPSES. The lake is open Thurs -> Sunday 7am till 3pm. Bass Fishing is good on Thursday but becomes sparse through the weekend due to the limited available shoreline. It's fun to take the family and let them catch a few bass and tons of catfish. Every once in a while I stumble on to some fair bass, 7 lbs is the best I've done this year.
However, since the shoreline is the only available casting location serious fishing is drastically hampered.
I do not think the lake will ever be open to the public again due to risk assessments associated with the Nuclear Plant.

There are other nuclear plants--all with lakes used for cooling and somehow they are open to the public.

I don't buy that risk b.s. It is just a stupid excuse to keep public off of good water. It is simply a group of people who found a smoke screen to hide their greed. Funny thing is that I would like to scuba dive it more than fish it, but gotta be careful in case I am a "threat."

I'm sorry you don't buy that "risk b.s." I'm sure you're more educated about what goes on there than I, since I only spend 13 hours a day there.
It is true that there are other Power Plants, not all on lakes specifically, but on bodies of water never-the-less that are open to the public. Each plant is different and assessed as such. Want to change it go to work for the NRC and I'm with you 100%. The lake seems over populated and needs to be fished more heavily.
The reason I do not believe It will open any time in the near future is that the Nuclear Industry has remained under heavy scrutiny since TMI (Three Mile Island). Scrutiny originates from many sources at Federal, Local, and Industrial levels. Conservative decision making helps to stay the vitriol and staunch criticism that seems prevalent between Company and Oversight Groups. TXU, of course, owning Squaw Creek made a conservative decision: ISOLATE THE LAKE. It was a move that was Instant In Effect, Cost Effective, and offered and Additional Buffer of Security for Plant Employees and Surrounding Residents. It was a calculated business decision short and simple.
I hope this has made some sense. I'm sorry the lake is not open to the public. It is a beautiful recreational site and has much to offer weekend recreational warriors. Should there be any new information that is fit for public consumption I will gladly post it. Perhaps, with a little luck, one day I'll meet you on the lake.

I'm not sure but wasn't TMI a good while back--like even before 911- -I think the lake was open before 911 and after TMI and I'm almost sure there are other nuclear power plant lakes open in the US today. So why has the NRC crashed down on CPSES so much? If it is such a threat why open it up to anyone? Just because a person is a friend of a TXU employee doesn't mean that they don't have bad intentions when they enter the park, but it does mean they have full access to the park, unlike the rest of the area. While the lake may be TXU's the fish stocked in there are not. They are the public's but now reside in a private lake.

I have no doubt you are fully aware of what is going on there. The point I am trying to make is that I was on that lake just a few short years ago fishing Honey Hole Team after Granbury's first Golden Algea kill. The threat wasn't that large then, as it isn't now. Let me rephrase in a not so abrasive manner; in my opinion it is ridiculous to have that lake closed. If they are going to close it, at least be honest about why it is closed, because I don't think it is "threat" related IMHO. The lake is beautiful, and doesn't belong to me. Dang I wish I could get on it though. Maybe you could help us out and go ahead and send a Memo up the chains and suggest the grand reopening of Squaw Creek to ole drakechaser's boat.

I just read through all this. It's a waste of time to add my opinion, because it won't change anybody's mind, but here are the facts as I see them.
Squaw Creek is a private lake. The land owner wants to keep the public out. This is TXU's right just like you don't have to let the public into your home.
The issue about state resources being used to stock the lake, and using this fact to leverage TXU into allowing the public back onto the lake is not valid. What kind of agreement did the TP&W make with TXU when it stocked the fish? Was there a contract that said fish would be stocked only if TXU kept the lake open to the public? Does anybody know for sure? I seriously doubt it, and I suspect TP&W stocked the lake with no strings attached in hopes for more 'bragging rights' about Texas LMB bass production. I'd also say that the cost of the original stockings were more than offset by the recreational value provided to the public during the years the lake was open.
Want to fish Squaw Creek? Get a job at TXU and sit on the bank with the other employees. Otherwise, quit whining.
This topic sucks.

The only way to put pressure on TXU is to hit them where it hurts. A protest to get users of TXU to switch to a different carrier. TXU has blocked off a lot of small lakes that could be used by the public. Even it it meant pay a fee like the City of Lubbock has at Alan Henry. I'm sure our Tax dollars and money from the Fishing License stocked those lakes. It's not right to stop us from fishing them. ANGLERS UNITE LETS PUSH THE BIG BOYS.

TXU has to be hit in the POCKET. Anglers need to Protest TXU by starting a movement to get people to switch to a different Carrier unless they open the lakes they have closed. TXU has numerous lakes closed to the Public. Even if they charged a fee. ( Could get advice form the City of Lubbock how they rip off the Public by charging to use Lake Alan Henry. The Public paid to stock those lakes and should be able to use. Even if having to pay.

This topic sucks. How's that TXU kool-aid? Since when were you promoted to the position to grade the validity of discussion topics?
