My new SOLIX units will be installed on Thursday, along with an Ultrex IPilot Link trolling motor. For the transducer, should i go with the built in US2 or put an external DI transducer on it? What's another couple of dollars at this point? Pro/con to each choice?? Thanks.

Well, can only get 2D out of the built in transducer. If you want DI you either have to put a transducer on the trolling motor or link to the transom transducer for the DI but it will be whats at the back of the boat and not the bow. To me, the built in unit does not get as good of a reading as an external transducer. The problem is, I can't seem to keep one on the trolling motor. I'll either get too shallow and break it off or the cable gets pulled loose and the prop cuts it or something scrapes the cable when deploying/stowing the trolling motor. I've gone through countless transducers because of it. It's gotten to the point that I haven't even used my bow FF in months because I am tired of fixing it.

I'm assuming you are using humminbird because of the link. If so, the transducer that will come with one of the Solix units will be a transom but if you don't open the bag it is in, you can send it to humminbird and ask to replace it with a trolling motor ducer for a small fee.

Transducer Shield & Saver makes a mount that will protect a ducer on the TM but it ain't cheap.
