Check your eye inserts to make sure there isn't a knick fraying your line. That close to the rod tip with that much line out (and 30 lb test?)... Break offs happen, but check your setups too! This

You might be the first person I have ever heard of using 30lb mono for a spinnerbait!
The one thing that you did that I pretty much never do is tighten up my drag on a big fish. I do just the opposite. I can control how much drag she pulls with my thumb if I feel the drag is too loose.

Tighten drag down with channel locks and push freespool button with thumb on spool for drag. This Is only recommed on 40 lb kingfish

I'm sorry that happened, but everybody has it happen from time to time.
How old is your line?

I wouldn't recommend pushing button and using your thumb. That would prevent you from taking up line in a hurry which is just as important as drag. When a big fish comes up to jump you don't want to be standing there in free spool. Reels have much better drags now than they used too. Let them do what they were designed to do.

I use a lighter drag and use my thumb to control slip.
