Esquire has an article of the 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
Most of them I've never heard of. What's the scariest movie you've ever seen.

My vote would be Silence of the Lambs followed closely by The Shining.

No one scary movie ranks that much higher than any other for me. Now disturbing movies? Seven.

An Esquire list about scary movies, that's funny. I used to get it back in the 80s.

After looking at the list of 50-40, I see that it's not serious. Of the ones I know, none is scary.

I don't see "Silence" or "Shining" as scary either, but it's all opinion.

"Ju On" comes to mind as far as scary, and "The Exorcist" and "Jaws" were both scary when I actually saw them at ages 10 and 11. Of course, as a child, "The Legend of Boggy Creek" scared me severely as well.

Not really a movie, but the first time I clicked on "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo". I am now forever mentally scarred.

Exorcist rates up there and also in the early 70s along the same time was a movie called Tales From The Crypt. This was a movie that had 5 short stories that for what ever reason to this day stands out.

I saw The Legend of Boggy Creek at a drive in as a kid.

Yeah, scary means different things to different people. I find movies that are more "thoughtful" (like the 2 mentioned) get the heart pumping more than the thriller type movies. I will say that I watched some exorcism movie that creeped me out. I don't remember the name of it.

Exorcist. Also, Salem's Lot--the original one with David Soul and that kid that was in all the after school specials back in the day.

"Silence/Lambs" wasn't scary at all. It was a suspense movie.

I have heard that "The Human Centipede" is scary, but I haven't seen it.

Also, "A Serbian Film," but it may simply be the most "disturbing" movie ever.

Agree, then several notches down: Rosemary's Baby and Halloween.
