Straight to the cooler always if I'm keeping. Also, a frozen jug of water instead of ice. Ice melts and the resulting slime from the crappie is a mess at the cleaning table. Frozen jug leaves no water to cause the slime mess. Crappie are the slimmest fish I've caught. Only use live well for tournaments. That is a clever idea. Thanks, will use.

I use to, before I sold my boat, put the crappie in the front big live well. Then when leaving drain the water out and cover them in ice for the drive home. Take em out and filet them and spray out the live well.

I usually put em right on ice. But after reading this I may just try it. Thanks for the information.

I usually use a cooler with solid ice, but sometimes I will ice down the live well and use it when I know it is time to be cleaned anyway.

Got me a gallon jug and made a big ice pack out of 3 diapers. Going out after work to test it out!
