I have a discreet number of lures that are shallow diving. On the treble I cut the bottom hook. That is the one most likely getting hung. Learned this from one of my buddies that fish the money game. Works well.

I'm a huge fan of a 4 or 5" swimbait normally a paddletail. With a swimbait weighted hook you can rig them weedless and they are so versatile. I have even tossed way back in Lilly pads and bumped every stem coming back. Drove them crazy!

Beetlespin-type lures work well. Another good one is the Johnson spoon.

I do a lot of bank fishing and my current go to in conditions where you either get hung up or stuck in gunk is a drop shot. It's pretty versitile. If the weight gets stuck in slop, you can still shake the bait to try and draw a bite before moving the weight. Also it's very successful with drawing a bite by casting blindly into open water. It's not limited to casting along the bank or at specific targets.

Gotta love throwing those frogs...I do like the hollow body baits, I just like having it on some braid with a mono leader if the water is clean. If it is dirty like it is most of the time in Texas, I just tie it straight to Braid. I also trim the skirted legs and slightly bend the hooks out a little to help with hook-up ratio.

My second go-to bait is a topwater popper...like the yellow magic, but the more cost effective version since they can get hung up if you are fishing heavy cover. -I like the recommendation to clip one of the hooks on the treble to help reduce snags.

Top water is my favorite from shore. Black buzz baits at night. You hear the bite before you feel it, its great. Though I don't bass fish anymore, I got bored catching .5-6lbs fish.

The baby 1 minus is also good for not getting hung up.

I burn my baits. The quicker you burn the more aggresive of a bass is gonna hit and it aint gonna be a small one and you wont never hang up. My reels is a 7:1 and them big uns hit hard.

+1 on the black buzz bait late evening or after dark.
