Might be kind of weird, but I bought a second kayak a few months ago so I could take other people kayak fishing with me.
Does anyone else do this? Was just wondering how common this practice is.

I have 2 kayaks, it's fun taking other people and introducing them to kayaking, especially if they have no way to get on the water.

My best friend is one of those, "I'll go fishing if you go," kind of guys. Never does any angling by himself, so I always bring the second 'yak for him. I know a few of strictly boat-only guys who I have introduced to the kayak and some of them are thinking of buying. In my case, I can load up and be on the water in 10 minutes (decent sized lake nearby). So that's a big pro for these other guys.

I am going to be getting my wife a perception pilot for her and then as a buddy kayak for my friends that want to go. Have to spoil the wife a little bit in hopes she enjoys it more.

I have a pedaler and a paddler and that is a good combination, I think, as it extends the range of kayaking a bit to more environments, more conditions.
A friend can always use the "other" one.
We used my Meyers Sportspal S-15 fishing canoe the other day, I was with my bro-in-law, and this gives me a tandem ride, more of a social trip in a way. This is also good to haul around young kids. 705 lbs. weight capacity!
I will say this: if one of your friends wants to go out all of the time, but won't buy his own kayak yet can afford one, I likely wouldn't act like a surrogate free rental source and feel good about it. In other words, don't let someone take advantage of you!

Awesome, I'm glad that this isn't an unusual practice. Thanks for all the input.

I'd like to get a second kayak.
I don't need one but they also don't take up as much room or cost what a boat does so I wouldn't look down on someone with 4 or more kayaks.
And I wouldn't look down on someone that buys a boat. Whatever turns you on.

If you're patient you'll run across some killer deals on used kayaks. We now have two extras for the kids, grandkids, friends, etc.

I use to keep two for the same reason. Sometimes it was used for people to try a different kayak, sometimes it was used just to take someone out to introduce them to kayak fishing.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19

Our plastic Navy is growing steadily. We have had as many as three in the water at the same time. This summer i expect they will all get used together.
I started out with a Jackson Coosa, loved kayak fishing but that wasn't the boat for me. Quickly traded it for a Jackson Tripper 12 (Kilroy).
In the trade deal came a Jackson Tupelo for the wife. She loves kayaking, but doesn't fish.
About a year ago I picked up a Heritage Angler for a graduation present. But my niece's priorities changed and it's still in the garage. The grandkids have used it quite a few times.
I wanted to try a pedal kayak and added a used Native Slayer SP10.
Found out about a very cheap Jackson Regal (usually used as a rental) so now we have 5 kayaks.
