Hey yall, so I'm looking at getting a new rod pretty soon. As of now I'm primarily using my 7' medium-light, fast action, 13 omen rod. Its the best rod I currently have for crappie. As a bass fisherman making my way into crappie, I want a complete set up for around $100. The 13 Omen is a good rod, but the fast action is definitely too fast. I've lost several fish due to the quick action of the rod. It's great for bass, but too overpowering for crappie. As any typical fisherman, I've spent plenty of time online looking at my options. I'm really considering the bass pro Crappie max rod, or the Lews Wally Marshall pro series. I'd like a rod that is good for vertical jigging (which is how I primarily spend my time), but I can still shoot docks with. Any suggestions/input would be greatly appreciated.
On another note, when I get this new set-up, I've decided to spool it up with some high-vis line. Any brand recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading, and as always...happy hunting

You can't go wrong with a Wally Marshall crappie rod and his high vis line in 6 pound. You will get a bunch of different suggestions so it's really up to what you think would work best for you.

You can't go wrong with a Proangler rod. The 8ft foam handle is $48 and the 6.5ft cork handle is $49. For vertical jiggin the 8ft is best and I shoot docks with it at times. http://proanglertackle.com/CrappieRods.htm FREE SHIPPING For a reel, the Quantum Optix 10 from Academy, $19.99 is a good reel that will hold up well.

Feel free to read the 4 page thread on ACC versus Pro Angler.
There are fans in both camps.
It is ultimately a personal preference.
You cant go wrong with either one.
Good Luck and welcome to Crappie Fishing.

Pro Angler rod....very nice rods. This ^^^^ And Mr. Crappie, high-vis 6-8 lb test. Braided lines with a monofilament leader is fine for longer rods and fishing piles out on the lake, but for marinas, I prefer straight Mr. Crappie mono.

I'm on board with the Pro Angler guys after getting to try one out here a while back. For high vis line I really like the Suffix Siege in Neon Tangerine.
