Anybody know if it's still near impossible to get to Goat Island from the Kayak ramp or Pine Needles lodge due to the salvinia? Thanks

Man, I miss that place without the salvinia. The last time we tried to paddle over there it was like paddling on dry land. That salvinia is some nasty stuff and pretty much kept us confined to the boat roads.

Thanks for the reply. I talked to the lady today that manages the WMA and she said it would be a bad idea to try it from the ramp because of of stuff like what you described. She advised I put in at the end of County road 3420, Greening road ramp, push pole to the boat lone, and hit Goat Island coming from the North. Said If I had waders and stuck to the treeline on one side of the cut by the ramp there was a bank under the water I could use and pull the boat behind me until I got to the boat lane. I've done something like that before at Caddo but I was a lot younger. For some reason I keep thinking about gators

I was just peeking at the latest image that Google Earth has for it, which I think was from late last year, and it looks pretty bad. Just about everything on the Texas side, all the way to the state line, is completely covered.

Thats a shame. I like Goat Island because I usually have it to myself. The State Park is going to be crowded when I planned to go.

Not sure about up near Goat Island, but the release from LoP has the river current pushing alot of the GS down to Louisiana side.

Lake Caddo has been on my bucket list for a long time. So for those of you that bass fish Caddo quite often y'all have any pointers? Good hotels, places to start fishing, gator problems, getting lost ?
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:19

Billy Carter is a longtime guide on the lake. He and his wife Dottie grew up in the area. They have some cabins in Uncertain for rent. Several of them have access to docks when you are not on the lake. The link will be below, that is where I stay. They also own Johnson Ranch Marina. Billy and his guides are a wealth of knowledge which they will share. Chaz one of the guides also grew up on the lake and is a great young man. I usually fish for crappie/yellow bass, bream and catfish...but if I were fishing for bass in the summer I would start with Texas rigged worms in watermelon or grass. Frogs worked slow around the grass and pads. I am sure one of the guys can help you more. Getting lost - can't speak to that, I have fished Caddo since I could hold a rod growing up in Cass County. If you let get dark it can be daunting. Mark your launch point on your GPS. Stay close to the boat lanes as it gets dark at least until your comfortable with the lake. Gators - they are there, but no biggie. Maps are available at Johnson Ranch. Depending on where you fish the water can be shallow and instant death on a prop. There are a lot of places a go-devil type is needed. If you want to see some big gators get Chez to take you way up in the backwater in a Go Devil. RIP Henry Lewis, RIP - you will be missed. https://www.news-journal.com/news/2017/may/10/uncertain-star-caddo-lake-fishing-legend-he/
