foul hooked about a 5ft alligator gar with a 2.5 squarebill in the middle of his back. Fought him for about 45 minutes. Finally got him along side the boat and tried to pull the hook out with pliers but broke it instead.

30-40 minutes. Didn't get wieght but est 60-90lb on arm scale. Jigging spoon I foul hooked a catfish around that size at the cold water intake at Martin Creek probably 15 years ago. My boat was against the cable. I hooked the fish outside the cable but it swam with the current toward the railroad bridge. I had 50 lb Spiderwire braid on a heavy action Falcon rod and that rod was doubled over and under the side of the boat. By the time I was able to tire the fish out and get it alongside the boat we had 3-4 other boats around us wanting to see what was going on. My partner reached over and got the hook out of her back with pliers. It probably took 15-20 minutes and I was shaking like a leaf when it was over.

I hooked a fish on a 5XD on Ray Roberts and fought the fish for 15-20 minutes before he came to the surface. It was a giant (at least to me) catfish and I had foul hooked him near his tail. I saw him and he saw me and he dove back for the bottom. I was using 12 lb Big Game and I just couldn't stop his runs. After a while longer, I started putting more and more pressure on the spool to try to end the fight. The 5XD pulled free and I only had a few pieces of catfish flesh to show for the 30 minute fight. Pretty much exactly what happened to me but did not get to see the fish.

My longest was probably around 7-8 minutes, maybe 10, I don't really know. 5ish foot alligator gar on the Brazos. We were catfishing, burning a cut bluegill back to the bank to recast and BAM...almost jerked the rod right out of my hand. Got him to shore once, but as soon as he saw me he drug line all the way to the other side of the river. Got him to shore AGAIN and the line snapped as I was trying to figure out how to pull him up the bank. That was my first gar and it was thrilling to say the least.

Not sure, but well over30 minutes...it was a foul-hooked carp using 6# line on a light spinning rig on Long Lake, Washington, and I landed it. Also fought a drum on 17# line for about 10 minutes on Possum Kingdom.

I have played a few big trout and steelhead on a flyrod for upwards of 10 minutes before. Down here in Texas though, I have had a big blue cat and a couple big carp pull for about 5 minutes. Bass, I never play them very long at all.
Saltwater fishing is where the big fights happen. I fought a 40lb striper for almost 15 minutes once and I fought about an 80lb cow ray for almost 20 (thought it might have been a shark). You hear of these guys having these epic 2 hour battles with these big marlin and sailfish out there I would pass out.

I caught this on Cedar Creek while in a tournament with my Dad. It was on a brush pile in front of a dock and I figured that we had it won until I got on top of it and it didn't come up. I would like to thank my Dad for not getting that kitty on my carpet. I'd say @ 10 minutes

Partner caught a big turtle once on a jig. It took 30 minutes or so before we gave up and cut the line. The jig was in the turtles arm and was close enough for him to try to bite us. It was probably ~50lbs or so. The shell must have been about 2' in diameter.

About an hour and a half on a giant, nearly 50" Muskie on 12-pound line. It hit right next to the boat and stripped 50 yards of line on the first run.

Fishing with a crank bait two weeks ago on Roberts and caught a 15 lb. blue cat. What a fight....I was worn out....
Last week my brother foul hooked a gar. It was about four feet long. Finally after fifteen minutes I suggested he just snap the line as I don't want it in my boat. I have seen plenty of gar on Roberts, but this is the biggest I have ever seen on the lake.
