I'm going to houston county lake with my buddy tomorrow and were gonna be fishing this weekend. I want to get 3 top waters but i don't know which ones I want or need. I have looked at the spro frogs and booyah pad crashers, they look pretty good. I have a whopper plopped to but there is this one top water called a bill Lewis stutter step. It looks pretty funny but i don't know if it works or not. What 3 top waters should I pick up for this lake? What colors? Thanks

If you are fishing over pads or floating grass get three hollow-bodied frogs.
If you are fishing more open water get three buzz baits.
If you want to spend money, then get the yellow magic.

If you want to spend money, then get the yellow magic. Frogs---white, black, green Buzz baits (Lunker Lure)---white, black, chartruce/white Yellow Magic---bone and a Spook in bone. Skip the Sutter step since you have a whopper plopper. Modification for the Buzz Baits. Crimp the rivet to the wire with a pair of pliers so it will not spin, then hold it out the window as you drive to the lake, (do not drop it). That will make the blade squeak as it spins in the water. For some reason the fish seem to like the ones that squeak better.

My dad actually does this only he lets it spin to make it squeeky. He has done it for years and he is a wizard with a buzzbait. You wouldn't think you could get technical with a buzzbait but he sure can. I think the squeak might sound like a panicked baitfish. They actually make kind of a cricket sound under water like the sound a hydrowave makes. This seems to trigger the strikes.
You can also just let it spin on the deck of the boat while you are running if you have one tied on

There are no secret lures. Pick a couple you like and go.
They'll be biting something else anyway and then you'll want a bunch of those.
