Bought a pontoon with a 50 hp Mercury 2 cycle. It's a 2005 so it mixes its own oil. Have not owned a boat for 20 years. Had the carbs gone through and rcv'd a clean bill of health. I am curious if the motor will be reliable now. Have not had it in the water since the fix. Last thing I need is to worry about it breaking down.

What is your experience with Merc's?

Keep Sea Foam in it and run it often. All will be OK.

Those 50 ELPTO motors are about as bullet proof as you will find. Good gas is key. Try to find some pure gas with no ethanol and keep the oil tank filled. Motor will be happiest run above 4000rpm to keep carbon blasted out.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!
