Wind and rock combination can result in a great day! It's one of my favorite ways to fish with a spinnerbait or even a crankbait

Get you some wind socks drift points and main lake humps with Carolina rigs !!! You don't have to fight the wind with your trolling Motor that way get some where you can make long drifts so you don't have to be dragging the socks back in all the time .. after your drift your spot pull them up crank big Motor up run back across it again if you catch a few fish are get bites it works good on bigger lakes I don't no about Waco never been there !

On windy days I fish the river and let the wind push me up the river. It makes me fish a little faster than I like but the last few times I still managed to catch some fish laying in the treetops.

Go to a smaller lake that runs perpendicular to the prevailing wind or a smaller lake with creek arms that offer good wind protection

Throw moving baits and drift/long line/stroll

if you are in Waco you should learn the rivers. plenty to fish and they hold fish year round.

Buy a powerpole or Talon, not cheap but it sure helps me fish windy areas

You said you are a first time boat owner. These guys are saying the wind is your friend, and they are right but like the others are saying be safe. Don't go out and fish the wind blown banks if it is gailing. Start out fishing the lighter winds and work your way up to stronger winds. So many people get into trouble when they attempt to go to another spot. You have to be quick about getting your gear strapped down trolling motor up and big motor started before you get blown into the bank. When your off the trolling motor your boat can drift pretty quick. Dont be fishing just off the shore and then decide to make your move. Stop fishing and troll out from shore then start your gear strap down. The higher the wind the farther out from shore you have to go (unless you have a partner that can start up the big motor and head it into the wind while you stow trolling motor and strap down gear). Like I said, work your way up on the wind speed and you will find your limitations. Some of my better fish have come on stormy windy, windy days. Be safe and have fun.

I've done studies on the effect of wind on catch rate, and there is no doubt in the data that catch rates go up as wind increases; up to a point. The sweet spot seems to be the 8-14 mph range. Beyond that, I suspect fish still bite well but it because so difficult to fish effectively catch rates drop off dramatically.

As others have said safety is number one. You can get in real trouble real quick in high wind.

Exactly. With my limited time on that lake both area's of the river is where I would fish even if it was calm.

It all depends on how big the boat and trolling motor are. If you don't have that big of boat or don't have that strong of trolling motor you might want to stay out of the wind so you don't run it until it dies but if you are a new boater just be careful. Safety first
