do you have it linked with a lowrance? Is that the only way it will anchor?

On the remote , there is an anchor button that activates spot lock and the numbers one thru 8 for favorite spots. I have ordered a lowrance so that I can mark all my brushpiles and use waypoints to position the boat at each location. It is so cool to just get close to your spot , hit a button and let the TM do all the work .
good luck MO

IMHO , the Xi5 is the best thing to come along since sidescan.

It's really changed my fishing. The anchor function lets me fish more instead of messing with anchoring especially in deep water.

Better than the Ulterra by far as far as actor mode... Won't own another boat without one! Allows so much more fishing time vs. fighting the tm.

What about battery life on the foot pedal and remote?

I have mine linked to both the HDS 12 on the console and the HDS 9 on the bow. It is unbelievable how great it is to see something on the sidescan and just touch it and tell the troll motor to go there and anchor. Yep, it does that. Also can have a bunch of brush piles along a route, you can just go from to the other and it will stop and anchor on each one. Yep, it does that. Wouldn't trade mine for any other motor out there.
Life is one big playground. Be sure to ride all the rides before it closes.

I think Ernest Patty swears by them. Says it's better than the Minn Kota at spot lock. That's not saying much though. My Terrova needs half a football field to wander around before spot locking.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

What about battery life on the foot pedal and remote? I have never taken the foot control out of the box. It would be a good idea to keep a back up battery for the remote on the boat. Now that I have a HDS9gen3 on the bow , I can fish brushpiles all day and not use the handheld.( much) NO

I have run mine with the remote for a year. I just replaced the batteries, i did not have to but went ahead and changed them, just so I would not get caught out on the water with dead batteries. The life of the batteries seems to be very acceptable. Except for the batteries that came in the remote. Those batteries were dead on arrival.
