Hello all!

I am looking to head down to Rockport in early June and have heard some amazing stories of wade fishing down there! I have been fishing for trout/smacks/redfish in Port A for years but never made it to Rockport(shame on me I know...). Anyone have any suggestions on a few places to try in Rockport? Thanks alot!

Goose Island State Park, or the 12th Street (Big Tree) launch just above it offer some good wadefishing, as well as several spots in Copano Bay.

Wading out from the pier at Goose Island is a good choice, work around Bartell Islands.

Howard Murph Memorial Park (aka Airport Park) is good wade which offers protection from SE winds, but it does get hammered by wade fishermen.

Little Bay in downtown Rockport was recently improved with the addition of oyster reef seeding. I haven't heard much about the fishing since then, but I'm sure its better than a few years ago. This was done along Broadway St on the northern shoreline, and there are a few spots to pull off the road to access it.

If the wind isn't too bad from the SE wading out in front of Shell Ridge Rd is probably where I'd look at the most. Sandy bottoms and the grass will start to back in the summer.

Port Bay Rd is a good wade, I mainly fish to the right.

For the spots I mentioned look for: "Goose Island SP Pier", "Howard Murph Memorial Park" (or "Airport Rd"), "Little Bay South Central", "Shell Ridge Rd", and "Port Bay Rd". Jim Ford also the "Big Tree" spot.

Lure selection; keep it simple:

• Bone topwater (I prefer Super Spook Jrs, but Skitterwalks and She Dogs are great too)
  Plum/Chartreuse, Pumpkinseed/Chartreuse, Strawberry/White, and Salt & Pepper/Chartreuse soft plastics (Norton, Bass Assassin, H&H, Down South Lures, and TTF are good brands. In other words they all catch fish.)
• 3" New Penny Gulp Shrimp
• Nite Glow 3" DOA shrimp
• 1/4 oz weedless gold & silver spoons
• 1/16 & 1/8 oz jigheads
• A wire cigar float (such as a Cajun Thunder or H&H TKO) for fishing the Gulp or DOA shrimp. Use some line from your reel to make the leader so the shrimp stays just above the grass or bottom when fishing.
