Ive used palomar knot for years with floro and no problems, just make sure the line isn't all twisted up and crossed, wet it and sinch it up tight.

Ive used palomar knot for years with floro and no problems, just make sure the line isn't all twisted up and crossed, wet it and sinch it up tight. Honestly .....that's the deal. Palomar knot works on anything. It is a strong, easy, quick knot to tie. Anything else is a waste of time or overly complex. Overly complex just means a chance to burn the line or miss a step. KISS...KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Only time anything is lease is needed is when you are tying on a leader.

I don't understand why anyone would use anything else unless you just want to make things more difficult. JMHO

The Fish N Fool knot is easy to tie and is stronger than the San Diego Jam and Palomar in the Knot Wars tests. Works for mono, flourocarbon, and braid. I've retied a bunch of my rods so we'll see. http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/fish-n-fool-knot

Palomar is easy. The Jimmy Houston knot is just as easy. I call these my tie in the dark knot because I can close my eyes and tie it (assuming the line has been put through the eye of the hook). Jimmy showed me that knot 20 years ago and I've just now heard of the doubled pitzen. Who knows who invented it. The San Diego jam knot is the same as the Jimmy Houston/doubled pitzen knot only it singles up the line and the line is passed through the loop next to the eye of the hook and the loop at the far end of the knot.

Palomar tied well is a great knot. I get people on my boat every week that don't tie it well. A lot of the videos on youtube show the steps properly but there are subtle differences to a well tied palomar and one that is weak. One key is the timing of when the knot is cinched. Many people I see tighten the half knot way too early and pull the main and tag lines through a snug or tightened half knot. This video shows how to tie it properly and why it matters:

I like the San Diego Jam.
All the knots listed are great knots. If you have a favorite already, stick with it. Practice tying it until you can tie it perfectly. Any knot is only as good as how it was tied.

I use the Palomar most of the time, unless I am tying on a large bait, then I use the Pitzen or double Pitzen. The only one I do not like for fluorocarbon line is the uni knot. It seems to break too easily.

Doesn't matter. Just pick a knot and learn to be careful and proficient at tying it and should be fine. I use a San Diego myself and have never had any issues.

Simple Improved clinch knot for me. I don't get into all the other boy scout knots. Been tying this for 30+ yrs and never had any problems.
