So I ordered some 580g Rafael sunglasses....the ones that won best in show icast 2016. However they sent me a set that have plastic lenses instead of glass. Is there a major difference between the plastic lenses versus glass?
Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life

The glass is a little heavier but the clarity is hands down better. And yes the 580 g will be more expensive in most cases than the 580 p

Any plastic will scratch eventually. If you ever fish saltwater it will scratch the first time you clean the lens if you dont dip in fresh water first. I quit plastic a long time ago, yes Costa, and only buy glass for fishing.
Retirement best job ever.

I have owned and own 5 pair of Blackfin 580G Pay a little extra and get the glass.. will not scratch...but if you lean back in your chair while eating at East Fork with them on your head and they fall to the floor...they will pit..Costas repair center is great and easy to deal with..

Couldn't you have asked your buddy at Costa about this?

Plastic will scratch easier then glass but glass lenses will shatter if dropped. I have 4 pairs of Maui Jims that need to go back for lense replacement. Just bought my first pair of costas a couple of months ago and like them. I ended up going with the plastic lenses because I don't have a good track record with glass lenses. Plastic won't shatter and are lighter on the face but glass will last longer and is a bit heavier if not dropped.

ive had my glass 580's for three years now and not a scratch on them (knock on wood). I've actually take a 2 oz weight straight to the lens and it didn't crack, although im sure that was just luck lol

Glass will shatter if hit by a jig or heavy weight and could cause serious injuries to your eyes, if not blindness.

I own two pairs of glass and a pair of plastic. Wear them all.
What people have said is correct.
The plastic is more comfortable on a long day (weight).
If you drop the glass they will break and it's $100 to send them in and get them fixed.
The plastic will scratch more easily.
I prefer the glass.

I absolutely loved the clarity of my 580g but by the end of the day I noticed the weight. They are heavy. I am back to a 580p. Much more comfortable in my opinion.
