For those who fish brush hogs and baby brush hogs - what is your go-to setup? What size/type hook preferred for either? Weightless or, if not, what size weight? Peg the weight? Thoughts on brush hog vs baby brush hog? Any opinions on the topic in general appreciated.

I fish fished baby brush hogs a LOT over the years, it's one of my go-to pitching baits. My set up is normally a 1/4 oz tungsten weight, 4/0 straight shank hook and 20 lb Seaguar fluorocarbon line all on a Dobyns Champion 735c and Shimano Castaic flipping reel. I normally peg the weight too since I like to get the bait into tight spaces, skipping under low limbs, docks, etc. As for colors, I keep it simple and use green pumpkin or watermelon red more often than not with the tail dipped in chartreuse Spike It. If the water is unusually dirty, I will switch to black/red or junebug.

Same here. I use a Peg X weight stop to keep it compact and together. Black or dark green colors. 17 lb. T Line, high speed Lew's, Heavy - fast action rod.

All above with Scott and company is super advice.
I will add my experience with Crig for the Brush Hogs. I like a short light pegged Crig around heavy grass and rocks from 15 ft. to the shallows. I use the 2.0 light wire wide gap hook for the Baby Brush Hogs with 18 inch leader.
I also have the set up for dragging deeper water from 15 to 25 ft.. Again is is as light of a weight as I can get by with, usually a 3/8 oz. pegged weight with about 18 inch leader. In this deeper water I like the big Brush Hog with the 3.0 heavy line wide gap hook. I stay on contour with this rig drifting with the wind when possible, just using the TM to stay on the contour. I am stripping line to stop it to stay in contact with the bottom and or turn the boat backwards into the wind but still drift. I do not really try to feel the bottom and just waiting for the weight of the fish before sweeping the hook set.
I use heavier line than most for both applications. If I am pitching to heavy cover it will be 20 to 25 lb. XPS Floro. For dragging it is 17 to 20 lb. test.
Another good Crig that we slay them on in Mexico is a 12 inch Crig. 3/8 oz. pegged weight and 3.0 heavy line wide gap hook. It is slow rolled like you would a spinner bait just staying in contact with the rocks and etc., letting it tick along. We use the big Brush Hog for this application for island fishing to points and sections of the banks where there if scarce bushes.

Scott's advise is right on... I tend to leave a little space for a bead to add a little noise to the bait...

First off it's the GOAT creature bait.
smallest weight I can get away with 3/0 strait trokar hook 15 pound seaguar green pumpkin with a little spike-it chartreuse dye
I will also peg it some.
I also use a falcon finesse jig rod paired with a Revo STX.

I always thought the Berkeley Power Hog was the best creature ever.....the Brush Hog in Green Pumpkin on a C-Rig is deadly....but still 2nd.
