Buddy got quoted a new Bryant 3.5 ton condenser (13 or 14 SEER) for $2,500, everything included.

Two questions:
- Is Bryant a decent brand? My opinion is below Carrier, American Standard, Trane, and York. Roughly equal to Lennox. Better than Goodman.
- Is $2,500 a fair price for a Bryant condenser replacement?

Your input is much appreciated.

Sounds like a good price. I just had my entire unit in and out replaced and it was 2500.00. It was a Goodman 4 ton 14 seer.

Your buddy should ask for a quote for whole unit. Get back under full warranty.

$ 2500 for a Bryant is way over priced just for the outside unit, SShop around some and you can find them lots cheaper,

of course, JOhnstone is a wholesale supplier & you cant that price walking in off the street, you need a tax number & a licence,

I think he means Johnson Supply. They are the York dealer. As far as Bryant it is the exact same as a carrier. Different sticker same assembly line and parts.

It has to be a 14 Seer if it is new as that is the lowest Seer rating allowed by law to be sold at this time. Bryant is a Carrier product and the level goes Payne, Bryant, Carrier the only difference is the bells and whistles that come with each brand as standard and the warranty offered. Also in order to by a Carrier you have to have a contract stating you are going to sell X amount of units with them in a year if not all you can buy is Payne or Bryant. As far as cost goes it seems a little high if he still has to have it installed and if it is a dry R22 unit he got screwed.

Thus why I said 'My" price. I did the EPA test about 20 years ago and opened and account there.
