Hey Guys, really gonna be trying to add deep crankin' to my repertoire this year..
Don't know a whole bunch about it, but I know I don't have the equipment to throw 6xd-10xd's
I've only done sq. bill crankin and stuff shallower than 10' in the past..
I'm looking for budget friendly recommendations for a good set-up.. budget is around 250.00
Thanks in advance

I use a BPS 7'10 MH rod and a Garcia 5500c3 reel and 12lb. Flouro. but I bet it won't be long until somebody comes along with something better.

I have the powell max 3d 7'11" MH composite rod paired with a curado. handles anything from a 5xd to a 10xd perfectly.

For 20 ft divers I have 2 Falcon Cara Deep Runners with a Winch on one and an H2O Menace in 5:1 ratio on the other. Your $250 budget would be buying used but doable. For 10XD baits I got a 7'9" H2O rod that I'm not certain is still available but a good one if you can find one.

I built an 8-foot rod for deep cranking. A reel with a low gear ratio and a lot of line capacity is ideal. With that 8-foot rod, I can throw a DD22 or a 10xd out of sight.

for anything 3xd and deeper I use an 8ft glass rod paired with a Lews Super Duty 5.1:1 reel and 12lb flourocarbon.
For smaller cranks and squarebills I use a 7ft MH rod paired with a Shimano Curado 7.1:1 and 15lb big game.
works for me....

I prefer at least a 7'6" glass rod, any reel for n a 5 gear ratio with a fairly deep spool, and 10-12# line mono or floro depending on the cover I'm fishing

I like the Dobyns 805cb RM for 6xd & DD22 type baits and the Dobyns 806xd ffor the magnum sized lures. Any quality reel with lower gearing will suffice.

I use Abu Veracity Winch rod 7'11"and Revo Winch reel. Cabelas had the Veracity Winch rod on sale for 69.99 and you could go down to an Abu Orra Winch for value. That would be a good set up. I don't really use a 10XD but do throw an 8XD from time to time. 6XD is really all you need IMO. Check Cabelas and see if they still have that rod on sale. I think you will like it.

What I use may be out of your price range. I use the new Dobyns 806 CB rod, it is built for the 8 and 10XDs. The above mentioned 805 CB RM CAN handle the 10XD, but it is not rated for it, so move up to the 806 that is designed for the bigger/deeper crankbaits. I have the old fashioned Greeenie Curado in 5.1:1 ratio. You MIGHT find a KVD set up for your purposes in that price range. I would go as close to 8' as possible. The Quantum KVD rod I would use is the 7'11" rod and a 5.1 to 5.5:1 gear ratio. I hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

OH, KVD rod is a composite, so is the Bass Pro Crankin' Stik. I PREFER straight graphite for the feel of the texture of what the composition of the terrain is. I put my drag at around 3 lbs so as not to rip the hooks out of a fishes mouth and play them as needed. Just some observations.

You need 2 setups. One for 5xd-6xd and another for 8xd-10xd. Get the 6xd setup then save up for the 10xd
