I was going to buy an Ultrex for my boat last week and was told by a real reliable source that there are problems with them and that they have to be sent back to the factory for service when they have something break. I was told that none of the service centers are allowed to work on them. Has anyone had this happen and if so what is the turn around time. Haven't heard too many bad things about the Ultrex until I heard this. Lets hear from all those Ultrex owners.

I have one but have only used it twice. Worked flawlessly both times. Might be the greatest accessory I have and the only functions I've used are spot lock and the other one where you can get your boat pointed in the direction you want to go and it will hold that direction on continuous.

Same here. I have about 15-16 hours on mine. It's been perfect. It did, however, lose spot lock once yesterday during the heaviest downpour. But, I walked back to the front and tapped the anchor button and it held again. It's by FAR the best thing about my boat now. Makes fishing in crazy wind easy. The spot lock holds the boat in around a two foot diameter. Crazy accurate. ...and easy on the batteries.

No issues with mine, had it since January, probably fished about 15 trips with it, what an awesome addition to a boat.

No issues yet, like others can't imagine fishing in the wind without it now. I can spend more time fishing and less time fighting to hold position.
I have heard that if you have an issue it has to go back to the factory, that's common for new products. Not sure how long that will be required before the repair shops can start working on them.

I have one and it is awesome. I also have had spot lock turn off a couple of times one day. Not sure exactly why unless the prop hit a stump and it turned off. I was in a timbered area at the time.

Greatest invention ever! We were pulling fish out of the bushes and wouldn't have been able to position the boat (and control it) the same way with any other motor.
Absolutely love it!

I have had mine since January and it's probably the most worn out Ultrex on the planet. I would bet on that. Actually need to send it back to Minn Kota to get serviced. Gas Cylinder and lift no longer work. Other than that zero problems, with the exception of severing the US2 sonar cable in the bracket when deploying.

I have used mine three or so times and have had couple issues. Spot lock kept turning off and the remote would not communicate with the motor, foot pedal worked fine. Talked with minnkota and verified after downloading the ipilot app that the remote was the culprit. Sent me a new remote and everything seems to be working fine. Not sure what is up with the spot lock issue though, minnkota didn't seem to have any good info to provide either.

Don't trust the original remote battery, the one that was sent lasted 3-4 outings for me. Did the same issues you said dav. Swapped in a new battery and been working great. Knock on wood,no the remote never showed low battery.

I think minnkota is wanting them back so they can catch any problems that might arise. Turnaround times I've seen have been all different. Some guys get a new one sent and then return theirs and some said 2 or 3 weeks

I have owned one for about 3 months and will be getting my 3rd one from the factory. The first issue was the power stearing went out. Correct, no one can work on them. It was sent back to factory and a new one was sent out. Took about two weeks. Second one had a short in it and only worked about 50% of the time. Sent back to factory and now it has been 2 weeks waiting on new one. I use my rig at least 3 days a week. I really hope I get a good unit this time because when they work there is nothing lke it.

I've had zero issues with mine. Such a fantastic product!

Let me say I would not trade mine for anything...but I have had a few issues. Within the first month I had to replace the armature but luckily Sartin Marine had a spare one in stock. The next week I hit a stump on level 3 speed going against the wind and the shaft shattered completely. The boat stays on Fork year round and I have hit stumps a lot harder than that and never had any issues. Again Sartin Marine ordered me a new shaft set up and it took 3 weeks to get in because they were on backorder. The part that bothered me is that I got a nice email from Minn Kota stating that I need to be more careful on lakes like Fork since it has so many stumps in it. They wouldn't warranty the shaft again against breakages on Fork! What! With all that said, I would buy another one of these things in a second because of how great they are.

Wait a minute!! So the "lifetime" warranty on the "unbreakable" shaft is limited to what lake you fish on? Well...I think the lake shouldn't make a difference.
