The older you get, the more you're gonna wish you had it. I know I do.

I have a friend that had one but got rid of it. While it would hold you in a general area if would not hold tight enough to say fish a small brush pile. But I also have friends that find it great on sand Bass as they do not require as tight a hold.

The new spot lock works much, much better. Still will get off target some depending on the wind, but it is very useful.

I have xi5 and love it. Yes it will drift slightly depending on wind, 5 ft or so at most, but if you drop a marker the occasional reposition is very convient. Especially useful if you want to scout si from console using remote or follow schools of whites or stripers.

Love mine, I have the 'older' version. great over brush piles. It'll move around some, depending on wind.

It wasn't lost on me how you were enjoying me doing all the work on your behalf. But on the next day, front-ending you and the others was effective and I might add brought about a lot of enjoyable (and of course, non-deserved) BS. bow_down

If you are good with foot controls you don't need it. but Old man like me with bum foot it's Awesome. I have the new spot lock and it works great. Sucks in swirling wind but in a straight wind it stays put. iPilot is great too!!!

IMHO a school of crappie ( or anything really ) in open water will be on the move, in almost
all cases they won't hang around if bait is not present. Where the anchor function really shines is fishing brushpiles.
I only have experience with Xi5 only, and I am completely satisfied. I had heard the older Minkota's would not hold close enough for brushpiles. The new ones are supposed to be better.

I went from foot controls to electronic. My spot lock is the older version and my boat is a deep V so it blows all of the place and the trolling motor cant keep up. I miss my old cable steer and buoy.
