Any recommendations on good ones and how to incorporate one into your kayak. How about saltwater vs freshwater trolling motors, thrust, batteries, mounting ideas or even small gas engine vs electric.

Here is an old trolling motor I had lying around that I mounted on my Commander120. I cut down the shaft, and use the control head next to my seat.
The pvc bar is my steering arm.

Very nice, I'm thinking about doing this to my Commander 140. Do you have any close ups of the top where you cut it?

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

I have one on my PA and enjoy using it. I also have a Ride 115 and have pondered putting one on it. The rudder line holes would make it a fairly easy way to use foot steering I think.

Shaun, here's a link to a thread with some great info on Art's installation on his Commander.

I have my Commander 140 set up with a trolling motor similar to that. I used the steering cables/pedals to steer mine through a bracket that I made. It works great! Because my motor is not a Dura Amp, it isn't as efficient on the battery as it could be. I'm casually looking for a Dura Amp or Maximizer motor to install, but it still works very well. I have an 8" pitch prop from a gas powered RC airplane installed on it, and it will run about 5-1/2 mph on GPS with a hot battery.

No I don't have any other pictures but I used a tubing cutter to cut the shaft, and then used a PVC elbow fastened with a bolt to keep it secure.
I had to add wiring in order to move the control head where it would reach all the way to my seat area.
I don't use the trolling motor very often, and with my setup I just undo the the transom clamps and battery clamps and the control head and trolling motor comes out of the kayak all at once. Only other thing I have to remove is to unhook the steering arm and remove the battery.
That's one thing about the Commander, it's pretty much trolling motor ready.
