How much lead can I recover from a car battery? If the battery weighs 40lbs...
after deducting the acid and plastic, how much lead is left?

Anyone here ever tried this? What was your outcome???

Just want cheap sorce of lead for jugline weights.

Thanks, Sniper

Not sure but coffee cans, eyehooks and concrete are fairly cheap.

I have tried that... they tend to rust after awhile
and get sharp edges.

Thought I would try old batteries. Was hoping someone here had some
insight.

-Thx

There are no really safe way to get rid of the acid on your own not to mention the case. Go by a tire shop and get some wheel weights or look for window sash weights. I use cheap barbells, you can even plasticoat them

A solo cup , a piece of copper wire and concrete. Much easier to deal with than batteries.

3 hole bricks, cheap, non polluting and easy to get hold of.

you can adjust weight easy enough, I buy the smallest wire cable I can get, usually 1/16".

heavy nylon line works too.

Recycling batteries for trot line weights seems pretty messy ad troublesome, plus they will never be worth as much as they are in exchange. Masonry bricks at HD are pretty cheap.....easy peasey.

I tried recycling an old lead acid battery once, but the toxic fumes killed me.
