Fishing at ramp with the Gkids, several times I've seen boats pull completely out of the water with the motors still running, and after out of the water the boater revs the motor blowing out what water is left in the motor. And not what sounds to me like "gentle" revs, they really crank it. I've seen it done with outboards, in/outboards and jet motors. Is that an all right thing to do? I've always thought the last thing you want to do is let a motor run/rev without being in the water. Haven't had the chance to corner one of these boaters to ask them about it, too busy with the Gkids.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

I've read plenty of places and heard from many boat mechanics that that is a BIG NO-NO.

I see jet skis do it all the time. Not a good idea for an outboard. I saw a pontoon load up on the trailer, start the motor and the dad told the son to raise the motor with the switch on the throttle. He raised the motor and then he turned it off. Asked the dad why he did that; the tilt and trim was an electric motor? He said naw the motor has to be running to run it up and down. Said try it now without the motor running. He said well I'll be dammed.
Put the plug in.

Ignorance gets expensive... There is not a good reason to run an engine out of the water.
