I have talked to many people that say the transom savers/motor totters that DO NOT support the lower unit to the trailer are bad for transportation when going down the road. The weight of the lower unit bouncing will ruin ****. I have the Pro Rule that came with the boat but was thinking of going back to the old style, lower unit to trailer. Wanted your thoughts?
Thanks,

I will trade you the "ols style" for your Pro Rule.
Did they explain exactly why they think the "old style" type is better? I don't think they are. I used them in the past and every time I got to my destination either home or the lake I noticed that the motor toter had ALWAYS moved on the lower roller. This tells me that the motor is bouncing while traveling. With the old style, every bump and vibration of the trailer is transmitted directly to the lower unit. Some say that the new style puts too much of a load on the transom. What about the load of the motor on the water when it is rough, or the load that running full throttle puts on the transom. It is built for that. What about the added weight of power poles. People are less concerned about the weight of power poles on the transom but they will argue that the new style motor mount puts too much strain on the transom.
The "old style" allows the motor to bounce. NOT GOOD I have seen lower units with paint worn off due to the "old style". Now it looks bad or you have to touch up the paint to make it look good again. Not so with the "new style".
So with that being said, my offer still stands. I will trade you, just let me know if you decide to go to the "old style".

Been pulling my boat with a prorule for 4 years and never had a problem. I don't think Skeeter would use them if they thought they would have problems with them...

Old style. As far as I know no one has ever even mentioned having a problem with one.

I use a motormate. The transom savers have flex in them. I'm not buying that having movement in the motor is better for the bushings. Regarding the lower unit, it's locked down soiid to the rest of the motor with bolts and doesn't move separately from it. As goes the rest of the motor, so goes the lower unit.

The argument continues about which style "transmits shock" from the road to the transom/motor. Yes the boat sits on the trailer anyway. Yes the transom is built to withstand way more energy than comes from the trailer. This I know: I have a MotorMate and it A. Secures my motor from movement/shaking(rock solid). B. Is stupid simple to put on. C. Does not scuff up my lower unit like the old antiquated stick style "motor supports". MotorMate!

My pro rule does not raise my motor high enough in my opinion.

It looks to me like the main purpose for these devices is to keep the motor aligned straight and avoid having the motor bounce to left or right and end up at the end of steering travel. That would seem to throw things off balance enough to possibly cause eventual damage to the steering rods/links or maybe transom. So if that is the deal it really doesn't matter which one you use as long as you like the way it goes on there. Just my .02.
