A friend and I are thinking about going Friday should we launch at Hwy 16? We are going after striper and Lmb and we're just thinking of throwing A-rigs and swimmbaits is this a good idea for those of you that have been there?

They had lockjaw last Friday. I fished for 3 hours (primarily targeting trout). I managed to hook one trout that shook off. I did throw some bass flies and even used a spinning rod with a rooster tail without getting a single bite. I started at the dam and waded south from there. I knew it was going to be a slow day when I wasn't even getting hits from sunfish. They were releasing a lot of water at the time and it had that wonderful rotten egg smell. I've caught tons of sand bass while the river smelled worse so I'm not sure if that was the problem. I'm not a certified bass-pro angler but I can usually manage a few fish when I hit that spot. It may rain some more soon so I'd be sure to check the flow rate before you go.

Definitely check the flow rate before you go. If they are cranking out 1000 cfs then its a wasted trip. You want no more than 500, and preferably 350 or less to launch a yak. My trips there recently were a tough bite for bass. They just don't seem to have woken up yet.
Here's the link to the water gauge. The flow is about 150 right now but that can change quickly at this time of year with the rains. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/uv/?site_no=08088610&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
