My family and I are camping at Johnson Branch all week. We have been bass fishing for two days with no luck at all. I assume most have spawned already, but don't know how or where to find them on a post spawn pattern. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bass will spawn on Ray Bob till June, This is a deep water lake, most of the big girls are up shallow now, but they will move up each full moon, Full moon was yesterday, Lindy Roberts who guided there for 25 years always hated fishing around the full moon because the fish would lock on the beds and wouldn't move to far, fish slow, For now keep it simple, Go into State Park Cove down by the dam, and hit all the points in there. Fish a dark colored lizard up shallow in June Bug. Fish are in the real small brown or dark colored fiberous stick ups or weeds.

It has been a tougher than usual bite on Roberts this Spring. I think a majority of the fish haven't moved shallow for whatever reason. I have only seen a few fish on beds so far. It hasn't helped all the dang carp have everything muddied shallow up from feeding. I can only image what it will be like when they start doing their thing too.

I haven't caught one with a beat up tail yet. I caught a nice fat 7lber a few days ago and her tail was fine, no signs of having spawned yet. I caught her in Indian creek in less than 2 feet of water. Good luck, hope you catch the hog you are after!!!! She's there somewhere!!

Most of the fish are done. This has been an early year. Good luck. They are very moody right now. Out of 8 boats lastnight in the little working mans nobody even had a 3 fish limit.

I think Barrett is probably right. I caught an 8+ in the Champs tourney that had to be 26" long and it has a torn up tail and was about the same girth as Barrett. When we saw the head, I thought instantly a DD but it literally had no body and looked about as post spawn as you can get. During practice we were catching good fish that definitely had better weight on them. So when I add those together it tells me the next few weeks will probably be tough then it should get really really good in May/June.

I am catching fish that don't look like they spawned. How long does it take for the tail to heal after bedding?

I'm sure there are some left spawning. They are still going on Rayburn and Toledo. The spawn was definitely stretched out this year with fewer noticeable big waves. They could be spawning in water that's hard to see.

I've fished roberts for 15+ years and have never missed the spawn. I have only seen 2 fish on beds and both were males.
The big wave hasn't even moved up yet. It'll be the end of this month in to may.
And yes the fishing has been terrible for me and lots of others. Some guys did real good in Champs, guys that won zeroed out there the following weekend. If that tells you anthing

We didnt actually zero. We had a limit and dumped em back in seeing we were not gonna be in the money but you are right. It is tough and I would say the spawn is mostly done in some parts and not in other areas.
Where did the Smallies go? Only caught 1 this year. Caught alot of small one the 2 previous years.
The state park cove comment was a good idea whoever told him that.

I've been catching em deeper than normal and those that were deeper looked to be pre spawn. This was week leading into champs. Haven't been back since then but my guess... big wave coming in right now is my guess

Caught fish that had not spawned yet this past Monday. Also caught fish in several areas that were very light colored and had just started moving up shallow. It ain't over yet.
